I have always believed in being authentic to oneself. If there is one thing that I’m not afraid of, it is being different. I’m not afraid to do things from a different perspective even if it sets Jacob’s Artography apart from the rest. As a matter of fact, it motivates me. On the other hand, what I’m afraid of and hope never to be, is being the same as everyone else…
There was something about 2022 which I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but it kept me in this loop where I was constantly questioning my work. I remember asking myself why are people enquiring but not engaging? Is it because my prices are too high? But they said they like my work, so what’s stopping them from hiring me? Is it because I only provide photography and not videography? If I were to mark down the prices, would they engage me then? To sum up, it was a challenging period, but that helped to solidify my belief in myself.
Despite the trials and a tad bit of disappointments, I remained true to myself and in doing so, I realized that at no one point should anyone shortchange themselves, their skills, and abilities to fit into societal expectations. And do you know what is the power of believing in yourself? People will believe in you too!
It is no doubt that this year challenged me, but it also bestowed me with clients who saw the value in my work, because let’s be honest, there are only a handful of people who truly appreciate documentary wedding photography. It was great working with couples and their families, and receiving hearty reviews from them for my art.
Like an icing on the cake, I wrapped up the year being one of the Top 50 Inspirations Photographers worldwide for a second year running! It was just the reminder I needed. I believe that every setback is a set up for a comeback.
So, buckle up, 2023! No more second guessing my work. It’s time to set new rules! Without further ado, presenting to you, the Best of 2022! Here’s wishing all of you a very happy and blessed 2023!
