Getting married soon? Congrats to you and your partner! I’m very sure the both of you have painstakingly planned every detail, making sure everything goes according to plan during the wedding. However, have you given a thought about the hours that go into getting ready on your wedding day?

The getting ready portion of your wedding could be quite lengthy, especially for an Indian bride. Depending on your wedding event, you’re either up as early as three in the morning or spending the whole of mid-afternoon getting ready. Surprisingly so, it also happens to be the only real downtime you have on the big day, before newest chapter of your life begins. Without a doubt, there will be a lot of emotions and fun moments shared among family members and the bridal party. With a little pre-planning, not only will you have a wedding to remember but a bridal morning to remember as well!

Speaking of remembering, this is where my job as a wedding photographer starts. Yup, you read that right. It’s not just about arriving at the bride’s house and taking portraits before the bridal party leaves for the door to walk down the aisle. In my opinion, your wedding starts the moment you start getting ready. Just like how every book has a prologue before the story begins, documenting the process of the bride and the groom getting ready narrates the beginning of your wedding story.

In my years at Jacob’s Artography, I do understand that some brides are naturally reserved and do not opt for getting ready shots. Then, there are some who would like to have their photographs taken but embarrassed about the mess in the room. Fret not, because I’ve never seen a mess-free room when it comes to getting ready! Also, working the camera’s angle is the photographer’s job. So, mess or no mess, you’ve got nothing to worry about.

Here’s a little tip: Lay out your wedding outfit, shoes, and accessories a week in advance and double-check the day before. This is a great idea, especially if you are getting ready for a morning wedding, as it will minimise the mess because everything you will need is within your reach.

Here’s to capturing beautiful memories of your wedding…
